Sunday was a glorious day as the long anticipated announcement of who will be drumming for Foo Fighters was finally revealed during the band’s live streaming event, “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts”.
From their Studio 606, shot in black and white, the event started with Dave, Pat, Chris, Nate and Rami standing around chit chatting, catching up. While in conversation, knocks at the studio door reveal Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tommy Lee of Motley Crue and even Danny Carey of Tool. All with drum sticks in hand, but an ulterior reason for their arrival. So very witty and funny.
After Danny’s visit, a voice pops up from outside the initial frame that yells “Excuse me!” The band turns around to reveal the new face behind the kit: complete with a name tag that says “Josh”. That being the legendary Josh Freese.
In case you are unfamiliar with Josh, let me just give you a quick rundown of his resume. I’ve known who he is since the late 80’s when he played with (and still does) punk rockers, The Vandals. He’s played with A Perfect Circle, Infectious Grooves, Guns N’ Roses, Devo, Social Distortion, Good Charolette, Evanescence, The Offspring, Static-X, Sting, Lost Prophets, The Replacements, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer, Bruce Springsteen and more. Plus he was a part of the Taylor Hawkins tribute shows. In a nutshell, Josh Freese is one hell of a drummer and one of the most trusted names in the business. I mean, look at that resume!! He’s the go-to guy!
Take a peek at how his introduction went below.
The event is streaming thru Wednesday veeps.com OR you can try this below as someone managed to post the entire hour to YouTube, but I’m not sure how long it will stay up.

Here’s a list of the songs they ran thru:
- All My Life
- Rescued
- No Son of Mine
- Under You
- The Sky in a Neighborhood
- Nothing At All
- Monkey Wrench
- Aurora
Josh is not Taylor. No one ever will be. However, Josh will bring a fresh breath of air and a little of his own flair into the Foo’s camp and I think Taylor would be proud.
Foo Fighters new album, But Here We Are, is available for pre-order now and drops on June 2nd. The album is dedicated not only to Taylor Hawkins but Dave’s mother Virgina, who passed away a short time after Taylor. I predict it’s going to be one emotional ride.
Foo Fighters will be at this year’s Sonic Temple in Columbus OH, Sunday May 28th, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN June 18 and Louder than Life in Louisville, KY on September 21st
