New Music – Linkin Park

New Music – Linkin Park

It seems weird to write a headline like that. Linkin Park released their final album, One More Light, on May 19th of 2017. Chester Bennington died just two months later.

Honestly, I’m glad they haven’t tried to “replace” him. Chester had such a unique voice, from the melodies to the screams, opposite of Mike Shinoda’s rapping vocals, it was a perfect blend. One that helped define the Nu Metal era.

Chester’s death still hits a lot of people pretty hard, so the fact that a “new” song has surfaced is not just exciting, I think it can classify as cathartic, healing, maybe even provide some closure.

“Lost” is a song that was intended for the band’s 2003 release, Meteora, but never made the final cut.  As the band prepares for the 20th anniversary of that album, they came across the track already mixed and ready to go. So why didn’t it make the cut? Mike Shinoda said:

“It was this close to being on the record… At some point, you put [the songs] in kind of an order, like these are the best ones and from there it goes down. And the one right on the other side of the line was this song ‘Lost.’ And the only reason it didn’t go on is because it sounded — it had the same intensity as ‘Numb.'”

Shinoda said they left the track as it was and released it. It will be a part of the 20th anniversary edition of Meteora, which will be released April 7th. The limited edition super deluxe box set will also include demos, b-sides, live shows and never-before seen behind the scenes footage. You can preorder it here.
