31 Days of Horror: Day 1, “The Evil Dead”

Last night at midnight, my husband and I kicked off our 31 Days of Horror. We watch a horror movie every day for the entire month span. Horror movies are really a year round thing in our household but October just sets the tone and the mood is always right. Cool, crisp air, rain, hoodie, comfy pants, horror movie….. that equals a perfect in home date night.

When we went to choose from our collection of DVD’s, which I’m not going to lie, are all either children’s, horror or comedy, we were faced with the decision on which title to kick off the month with. After some chatting, we both decided that we feel like The Evil Dead is possibly, THE BEST, horror movie ever created. What makes The Evil Dead so great? The list is long but here are a few fun facts found via IMDB:

  • The movie was filmed in an actual abandoned cabin in the woods
  • According to cast and crew members, this was one of the worst experiences they’d ever been involved in due to freezing temperatures, the locale, and Sam Raimi‘s filming which took endless hours.
  • Filming began in 1979 with a cast and crew of 37 people. Initial shooting finished in six weeks, but it took 1.5 years to edit the picture.
  • On the very first day of shooting, during a scene shot on a bridge, the crew got lost in the woods.

Sounds like a real life horror movie to me. In my opinon, it may just be the perfect horror movie and it was definitely the perfect way to start out our 31 Days of Horror. Check back tomorrow to see what we watch on Day 2. -Suzi
